Hi, my name is Angela "Angel" Uihlein. AngelRide is named after me!
AngelRide is not the only one celebrating its 14th anniversary in 2017. During the very first AngelRide in 2004, the leukemia I had been fighting for about a year returned and I received a lifesaving bone marrow transplant. What a way to celebrate 14 years cancer free along with 14-year anniversary of this amazing Ride.
It is crazy to look back and see how far we have come. AngelRide has gone from a small group of 32 riders to hundreds of riders each year, raising over $6 million for The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp's Hospital Outreach® Program. Since 2004 (2003?), I've come from a 13-year-old girl fighting for my life to now, working as an RN a career inspired by these life changing experiences.
I am so lucky to be able to look back and see how my life has changed, how my experience is starting to come full circle: My nurses were the greatest influence on me, and I am now able to have that impact on others. It is truly amazing to see what positive experiences can come from such an awful illness. As hard as it was, I am grateful for what I have been through, grateful for all the good that has come out of it and excited to see how much more we will both grow.
