What is a PokerRide?

A PokerRide is a cute name for a fun game that provides an opportunity for our community to stay connected via texting. Participants will be assigned an AngelRide volunteer to “deal” them cards as they complete sections of their own route. The volunteers will stay in the comfort of their homes.

You can complete your personalized AngelRide PokerRide in 1 day, 2 days or 3 days: May 29-31, 2021.

Cyclists, mountain bikers, runners and walkers are invited to participate on your own course at your own pace, outdoors or indoors.

  • Cyclists will earn 1 PokerRide card every 12 miles.
  • Mountain Bikers will earn 1 PokerRide card every 6 miles.
  • Runners and Walkers will earn 1 PokerRide card every 4 miles.

We will pair you up with an AngelRide volunteer via cell phones, respecting the need for physical distancing. When you complete each leg of your route, simply text a selfie to your assigned AngelRide volunteer and they will deal you a card! Take creative and fun pics – we will create a slideshow!

Earn at least 3 cards to play the PokerRide game. Challenge yourself! Set a goal that you need to train for!

GAME GUIDELINES:

You must come to the Closing Ceremony with at least 3 cards.
We will draw 2 Community Cards during the Closing Ceremony.
You need a total of 5 cards to play and there are a couple of ways you can get there!

Participants earning 3 cards:

  • 2 Community Cards will be added to your hand.

Participants earning 4 cards:

  1. Keep these original 4 cards. The 1st Community Card will be added to your hand. You may not use the 2nd Community Card.
  2. OR, discard 1 card so you are left with 3 cards. Both Community Cards will be added to your hand.

Participants earning 5 cards:

  1. Keep these original 5 cards. You will not use the 2 Community Cards.
  2. OR, discard 1 card so you are left with 4 cards. The 1st Community Card will be added to your hand. You may not use the 2nd Community Card
  3. OR, discard 2 cards so you are left with 3 cards. Both Community Cards will be added to your hand.

Participants earning 6 or more cards:

  1. Discard so you are left with 5 cards. You will not use the 2 Community Cards.
  2. OR, discard so you are left with 4 cards. The 1st Community Card will be added to your hand. You may not use the 2nd Community Card
  3. OR, discard so you are left with 3 cards. Both Community Cards will be added to your hand.

The winning hand is based on 5 cards with different faces. If a Community Card matches one in your hand, that duplicate card cannot be used. You can play with the other cards in your hand.

At the virtual Closing Ceremony, 2 Community Cards will be revealed and a winning hand determined. That person will have a $1,000 donation made in their name to The Arthur C. Luf Children’s Burn Camp! Valerie won last year with 3 Aces!
