Here is a small selection of what the riders and volunteers had to say about their experiences with AngelRide 2010.
"I want to reach out to you and thank you for a wonderful event. I left the Camp charged to do more, and raise more for a great cause. This was my first organized ride of any kind and I know our riding team feels the same way I do. I could spend all day trying to come up with the words to describe how I feel, but it is difficult. All I can say is I promise to come through next year, so count us in. Thank you very much. If there is anything we can do throughout the year, let us know. I also would like to thank all the volunteers for there rider support. I can't imagine another ride that would even come close to this one. Thanks again." Greg N. (Rider)
"I've been meaning to send this to you for a week...
I wanted to thank you and Fred and your staff for an AMAZING!!!!! ride 2010. Once again, you guys went above and beyond! My sister rode with me for the first time and she was so jazzed at the end of the ride that she can't wait till next year. I know that you and your staff put in so much work to make this event so successful and I want you to know that it's truly appreciated. Your volunteers are amazing. They are so wonderful!! I can't tell you how wonderful it makes us feel when we step off of the bike and we're greeted by a smiling, friendly and helpful volunteer. It makes huge difference and it really makes those hills tolerable :)
I'm so grateful to you guys for such a wonderful experience! As a Camp old-timer, I know first hand what your gift does for the kids and their families. It means so much and it helps so many.
Please, give yourselves a HUGE Camp hug and accept thanks from a humbled rider and her Cycling Sister! We'll miss you in Session 2 Fred but hope you have a safe and happy summer! See you in the fall!
xoxo" Beth S. (Rider)
"Words can not express the emotions I am still feeling from this past weekend and the Angel Ride. The volunteers from the top right on down just amazed me. The team effort was exemplary and the comradeship was heart warming. After "driving" the route and watching each of the riders coming in to the rest stops...I was so proud of what they were accomplishing and it was as if I knew each of them personally (hopefully over the years I will) that the pride brought me to tears many times throughout both days. Knowing they were riding their hearts out for some very special little ones to have the golden opportunity to go to camp. I only wish I could win Powerball...can you imagine how much good I could do then?!?
I also can't thank you and Fred enough for the foresight of such an amazing event. You must sometimes stand back and have a hard time taking it all in! I can't even imagine the emotions you must feel each year...at each event!
Thank you for the opportunity to be involved with the most amazing event ever! I am already looking forward to next year and hope we can make the ride that much more special for the riders.
May God Bless you and Fred and all the other amazing volunteers! You all already have your wings..." Michele M. (Team Leader/Volunteer)
"I am too tired to type!!!!
AMAZING!!!!!!! In so many ways! By far the most difficult, punishing thing I have ever attempted. It took physically, mentally, and emotionally everything I had to finish Day One. I honestly thought at one point "I may not make it, I may have to SAG wagon today, I don't know if I can do this"...then the thought occurred to me that the kiddos like Francesca and others have no choice but to keep going, keep fighting, and keep struggling though every bone in their body tells them to stop. And for them it really is life or death. Wow - that was a scary thought. All I'm doing is riding a bike!!!!
My husband rocked the ride. He finished way ahead of me and actually left the camp to come back to ride the last 10 miles (again!!) with me.
Coming in, it was pretty incredible to see the camp entrance and pull into all the cheering volunteers at that special place!! I jumped off my bike, and could not stop crying/hugging my husband - tears of joy, relief, disbelief, exhaustion and gratitude for having gotten there.
Once you're at the camp, the "bike ride" turns into so much more!!!! I was astounded at the beauty of the place, and the vision that Paul Newman had for these kids and their families. After dinner, we had some entertainment and presentations at the theater - some former campers/now volunteers talked about their experience there. Some parents whose kids have been campers spoke, and a number of riders just told their story about why they were there. We toured the wheelchair accessible tree house, and just took in the beauty of the place. It is a little bit of heaven on earth.
There were many many many things that made this a special, unique experience but I can't capture them all here. Suffice it to say, we had an amazing group in our Team One Ton - "tons of heart & soul" on top of the tonnage of physiques :-) which made this a tremendous weekend. Day Two was beautiful and challenging as well. Crossing the finish line was so rewarding...then I immediately left camp and joined my husband and some of our team escorting the "Young Riders" 6-mile ride (still lots of hills for those little bikes!! -- I think they raised over $14,000!!! Again, a wonderful experience.
Believe it or not, I think our whole team committed to riding again next year (I said it must be like childbirth where you forget all the bad parts and just remember the wonderful parts!) and hope to grow the team. I can't even think about it right now, but somehow imagine I, too, will be riding again next year!
Team One Ton made a splash and gave lots of heart to the experience! Hope you can join us in 2011!
Thanks again,
" Joanne P. (Rider)
"I wanted to take this opportunity to say thank you and the AngelRide Organization for so many things.
Thank you for the opportunity for my daughter to do something greater than her. She felt such a sense a pride after completing the Young AngelRide. She worked so hard to accomplish this goal and for that I couldn't be more proud of her and my husband. We, as well as other members of the Wagging Tails, are committed to riding again next year. My son Zach and I will be joining them as well and we can't wait!
Thank you just doesn't seem adequate for the gratitude we feel for the donation of Zach's new bicycle. He absolutely loves it! It put a big giant smile on his face and for that I am forever grateful. I love that smile!!! I have attached several photos of when he first saw the bike...the look on his face was priceless. This gift was so unexpected, but so much appreciated. So Thank You from the bottom of our hearts.
Lastly, I personally want to thank you for all your hard work that you put into organizing the ride and for all the encouraging words to the kids. It made the anticipation and the ride that much more exciting!
We know from personal experience how important the Hole in The Wall Gang's Outreach program is to our son and so many more other children. Having spent so much time in the hospital and seeing the joy that a simple craft or game and a friendly face could bring, I am so grateful and admire all of you for the time and patience and love that you share with the children. We are so glad to be able to give back in some way and again hope to make it an annual event.
Very truly yours," Cari, Lee, Carlee and Zach K. (Parents Rider and Special Volunteer)
"Thank you for such an enjoyable ride on Sunday. My son Carter and I were first timers for ANY type of bike ride. We had a wonderful time and can't wait for next year.
My father in law David Smith was very active in the AngleRide for many many years. He did not ride but was the one who would coordinate the ride with all the towns it travels through. My father in law passed away in March. We are hoping that my son, Carter, (8 yrs old) can follow in his grandfather's shoes someday.
Again, thank you for all your hard work. " Cathy S. (Parent of Young AngelRider)
"I just wanted to say that it was a pleasure to work at the AngelRide event this year. This was my third year volunteering as a massage therapist, and was by far the most enjoyable. Goldie did a fabulous job of recruiting and organizing that portion of the event. It has never been handled more smoothly or been more enjoyable for the riders and therapist alike. I hope you will invite Goldie to handle things again next year; she is a pleasure to work with and seems to enjoy the excitement as much as we do. It is always a pleasure to see you both again. Feel free to call on me if I may be of service at anytime. Sincerely," Gary S. ( LMT/Volunteer)
"Hey Lynn,
I bet your get lots of crazy e-mails after AngelRide but I just wanted to say THANKS. What an experience and it amazes me, changes me, and uplifts me every year. I hope after all my college and living and such that I can end up doing something that is so awesome for my whole life! Thanks for all that you do and being so awesome! Love," Molly
