Alan St. Peter and Angela "Angel" Uihlein |
Over the next 10 weeks, you'll train hundreds of hours, ride hundreds of miles, drink gallons
of water, and devour pounds of recovery food. You’ll raise a thousand dollars, and for many
of you, you’ll raise thousands of dollars. Why? Because the roads are calling. Because
AngelRide has best goodie bag ever, the coolest rider jersey this side of the Rockies, and
fabulous food donated by Mohegan Sun. But really, why? Because the HOP kids need your
help. And as Alan St. Peter, a much-loved AngelRider, will be remembered for saying:
"Because you can".
Shine on!
Lynn

P.S. Tip of the week: Tell everyone you see about your connection with AngelRide and HOP.
Then ask them to support you.

Volunteer Spotlight

Keith Knowles |
This week I want to shine our volunteer spotlight on our Web site. The
man behind AngelRide.org is volunteer and long-time AngelRider, Keith
Knowles. Keith and his wife Sally live in West Hartford and are the
proud parents of four beautiful children. Their oldest daughter,
Taylor, passed away at the age of 5 from brain cancer. Keith rides
every year to honor his daughter's memory and because of his passion
to help other children affected by cancer and other life-threatening
illnesses. Keith created and built the entire site, and volunteers
hundreds of hours to keep our info updated and easy to access. It's a
top-notch site all done through the generosity of Keith’s time and
talents. When he’s not volunteering for us, Keith and Sally are busy
with their own Web and graphic design business -- if you or anyone you
know needs top-quality Web site services, I highly recommend you check
out Knowles Kreative at knowleskreative.com.

Training
Here is some information on hydration from our nutrition specialist Bridget Bennett:
What is the best way to stay hydrated?
Strenuous activity and exercise can cause the body to lose fluid and important minerals (electrolytes) that are essential for energy and organ function. In general, healthy adults need at least 8 to 10 cups of fluid every day, and usually require even more while sweating during exercise. To see some suggestions for fluid replacement and to ask Bridget your own nutrition question, follow this link: http://www.angelride.org/nutrition.php

Fundraising
We'll take credit cards, bags of money, checks -- it all goes to the HOP kids. In fact last year
our treasurer Deb Brown processed 1,500 checks. That's a stack about 15 inches high, and
amounts to a fair bit of processing by Deb. So here are a couple tips to make sure your
checks go through as quickly as possible:
- Be sure to enter the checks on your webpage as an "offline donation". This keeps your
fund raising up to date. If you forget to do this, your fundraising amounts might not reflect
your current totals or include your donors for as much as 3 weeks time because of mail delay
and processing time.
- Make sure your name (or Team name if appropriate) is clearly noted on the memo line of
the check (that way the check can easily be identified to you). As some donors send checks
directly to the Hole in the Wall Gang, please remind your donors to add your name to the
memo line.
- Please mail your checks as soon as possible so that we can get them processed. Do not
hold them until the event. Download a Donor Form and mail it with your check to:

Event Logistics - New! One Day Riders!
The families from the Mystic
community will be welcoming
Sunday AngelRiders in a very
special way this year. You will be
invited to stay overnight
Saturday, in the homes of local
volunteers and a dinner will be
held on Saturday night in your
honor. This will give you the
opportunity to get plenty of rest
as you will need to meet the bus
to the Camp at 5:30 a.m. and
meet some of your fellow
AngelRiders before the event.
Sunday Riders will park and meet the bus at 5:30 a.m. at the Mystic Middle School:
204 Mistuxet Ave.
